TSC Reminds Teachers to File 2025 KRA Returns Before June 30 Deadline

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has once again issued a reminder to all teachers and secretariat staff to file their 2025 Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) income tax returns before the June 30, 2026 deadline.

In the latest communication, TSC emphasized that filing annual tax returns is a mandatory legal requirement for all employees, including teachers serving under the commission.

The commission urged teachers to avoid last-minute rushes by submitting their returns early through the KRA iTax portal.

Mandatory Requirement for All Teachers

According to TSC, every teacher is expected to comply with the tax filing process regardless of their employment status or income category.

This includes:

  • Permanent and pensionable teachers
  • Intern teachers
  • Secretariat staff
  • Employees required to file nil returns

Teachers who fail to file their returns before the deadline risk penalties and possible complications with future government services.

Penalties for Late Filing

The Kenya Revenue Authority imposes penalties on individuals who fail to submit returns on time.

Possible consequences may include:

  • Financial penalties and fines
  • Accumulated interest charges
  • Tax compliance issues
  • Challenges accessing government services requiring valid tax compliance certificates

TSC has therefore encouraged all staff members to complete the process early enough before the iTax system experiences congestion near the deadline.

Steps Teachers Should Take Before Filing

Teachers have been advised to:

  1. Log into their iTax accounts early
  2. Download and confirm their P9 forms
  3. Verify personal information and tax details
  4. Submit returns before June 30
  5. Save and print acknowledgement receipts after successful filing

Increased Awareness Campaign

The reminder forms part of broader efforts by TSC and KRA to improve tax compliance among public servants across the country.

Every year, many taxpayers experience delays due to system traffic in the final days leading to the deadline. Authorities are therefore encouraging early filing to avoid unnecessary stress and penalties.

Teachers Urged to Act Early

With the June 30 deadline fast approaching, teachers are being advised not to wait until the last minute.

Tax experts also recommend reviewing all employment and deduction details carefully before submission to avoid errors that could affect future tax records.

TSC is expected to continue issuing reminders as the deadline draws closer to ensure full compliance among teachers and staff members
