The Director, Teacher Professional Management (TPM) at the Teachers Service Commission, Dr, Reuben Nthamburi delivered a comprehensive presentation today during the Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum on the proposed amendment to Regulation 20 of the Code of Regulations for Teachers at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).

The presentation addressed key aspects of proposed amendments in teacher registration and qualification requirements, with emphasis on subject combinations under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework. Areas highlighted included learning domains such as sciences, physical education, creative arts (music, dance, film and theatre), sports, and ICT—recognised as a core competency for all learners.

The Director also outlined the process for recognition of qualifications obtained locally and internationally, emphasizing the role of relevant regulatory and accreditation bodies in ensuring that academic and professional credentials meet national standards.

Stakeholders were taken through the proposed amendments in requirements for registration of both local and foreign-trained teachers, including verification, certification, and compliance with relevant authorities and professional guidelines.

The Director underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement in refining these proposals, noting that the amendments aim to create an inclusive, practical, and forward-looking framework that supports a competent and adaptable teaching workforce
