Think about this …..
In 2025, universities across the country were hit by a lecturers’ strike that disrupted learning for nearly two months. While many institutions rushed the syllabus, or quietly assumed learning was “ongoing”, the UoN and KU did the exact opposite. They simply reorganized the timetable, ensured full syllabus coverage, and maintained academic standards.
As we speak, comrades at UoN are revising for end-of-semester CATs ahead of exams scheduled from next week.
Now compare that with several other universities affected by the very same strike — MMUST, Maseno, University of Eldoret, Kisii University and others — where end-of-semester exams are already long finished and students are at home waiting for results. The math simply doesn’t add up. It’s no surprise their comrades constantly flood our inbox complaining about sitting for exams after interacting with a lecturer only once or twice the entire semester.
A few institutions like JKUAT, JOOUST, TUK, Pwani etc have also joined the top boys league by refusing to compromise academic standards. Meanwhile, universities such as Chuka, Tharaka, Turkana, Embu and KAFU experienced no disruption, so their timelines are understandable.
…… and this is exactly why we keep saying these universities are world-class. There are no shortcuts, no cosmetic degrees, no rushed semesters and no pretending. You either learn the content properly or you don’t graduate with the prestige that comes with that badge.
